"Strange Attractors" is a term that rose out of the science of Chaos Theory. It was found that in some chaotic systems (weather, for instance) there are zones or levels that seem to organize themselves into coherance, to attract coherance. In the early days these were few and far between, thus the term Strange Attractor. Since then more and more have popped up, so it seems they're not so strange afterall.
